A Canadian tourist who was brutally beaten in the Hutt Valley last week is still in fear of his robbers.
The 25-year-old from Vancouver remains in hospital with a fractured nose, broken ribs, punctured lung and badly bruised face and body.
Detective Sergeant Tony Heathcote of Lower Hutt CIB said the man was fearful of a repeat attack.
"He's quite concerned these guys might do the same thing to him again."
The victim is receiving help from the Canadian High Commission and Victim Support and has been offered places to stay when he is discharged.
"There have been a lot of kind gestures made."
Public sightings and information about the two men linked to the attack had flooded in, Mr Heathcote said. Police were positive the case would be resolved.
Police are looking for two male Pakehas, one of whom is described as 25 to 30 years old, 1.82m tall, with a tattoo on the top of his shaven head.
The second is aged about 25, of slim to medium build, about 1.82m tall, with dyed, dirty blond hair. His name may be Mark.
Police are appealing for information from the public who may have seen the men in Courtenay Place.
Detectives established yesterday that the wanted men got into a grey car about 6pm on Tuesday outside the Tasting Room bar there.
Mr Heathcote said a patron told police the men had spoken to people sitting at the tables outside.
"We'd like those people to come forward."
