A man snapped by a security camera taking measurements at night in front of a Northland automatic teller machine appears to have been on legitimate business, police said today.
The camera caught the man using a metal tape measure to gauge the distance between two posts just in front of a bank A™ in Dargaville.
The incident happened between 7.30pm and 8pm on June 17, but the man's identity and intentions had remained mysteries to bank staff and police.
However, publicity today about the case resulted in a person coming forward.
Northland police communications manager Sarah Kennett said police were still in the process of checking details but it appeared the man's actions had been above board.
"At the moment it's looking like no offence has occurred," she said.
Exactly what the man was doing at the time was something police were trying to confirm, "but on the face of it, it appears to be legitimate".
