Masterton athletics coach Mark Harris is pleased with the progress made by his training group as they prepare to contest their first track and field meet of the 2012-13 season at Newtown Park in Wellington this weekend.
Harris had more than a dozen of his track squad attend a training camp in Masterton over the weekend with activities being held not only on the new all-weather track at the Pugh Sports Bowl but in the Genesis Recreation Centre pool.
"We had them doing a variety of exercises aimed at helping them get into shape while having some fun at the same time. There was plenty of enthusiasm there, it worked well."
Just when the rubberised track at Pugh Sports Bowl will be ready for meets is very much dependent on the weather but Harris is optimistic the track will be completely laid and marked by the end of this month or, at the worst, early November.
"Give us a few days of good weather and things will really start to happen ... there's a lot of excitement about what it will mean for the Wairarapa region, it's going to be huge," Harris said.
