One person has reportedly been killed and others seriously injured in a crash on the West Coast.
Emergency services were still at the scene of the crash between a car and campervan on the Haast Highway between Lake Paringa and Lake Moeraki about 4pm. There were initial reports two people had died in the accident, but further reports are saying only one person is confirmed dead so far.
A man in his 40s was flown to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition with suspected pelvic injuries, St John Ambulance said in a statement.
Another person, whose age and gender were yet to be confirmed, was flown to Grey Base Hospital in a serious condition with shoulder and leg injuries.
The deaths take the Christmas/New Year holiday road toll so far to 9.
