A protest march against asset sales is expected to cause traffic chaos in Christchurch Saturday, July 14 police say.
Christchurch police have advised motorists to expect delays on Riccarton Rd during the action, and to consider using alternative routes.
The march is planned for 2pm, with participants meeting at Hagley Park before marching along Riccarton Rd, which is popular with weekend shoppers.
Southern Area Commander Inspector Malcolm Johnston says police had been in contact with the march organisers but at this stage it was not known how many people were likely to take part.
"There is the potential for the event to attract a number of people, so some disruption to traffic flows on Riccarton Road and around Hagley Park is possible.
