Assault on officer, women alleged

The country's youngest convicted killer is facing a new accusation of assaulting a prison officer earlier this year.

Bailey Junior Kurariki, 20, appeared in the Manukau District Court on Thursday to face one charge of assaulting the officer on January 24.

He will reappear in court on this charge later this month.

Kurariki was locked up in Mt Eden Prison at the time for wilfully damaging a television camera.

Additional charges against Kurariki have also been laid by police this week in relation to an incident where he allegedly exposed himself and groped two female Herald on Sunday staff members.

Kurariki is accused of two charges of indecent assault towards a female over 16 and one charge of committing an indecent act. Those charges will also be dealt with at the Manukau District Court later this month.

The Department of Corrections declined to comment further on the assault against a prison officer as the matter is before the courts.

Kurariki was 12 when he was one of six people involved in the killing of pizza delivery man Michael Choy in 2001. He was jailed for seven years for Choy's manslaughter and released in May 2008, four months before the end of his sentence.

Following his release, Kurariki was sentenced to 12 months' supervision in May last year after admitting he assaulted his girlfriend and breached his parole conditions.
