Assault on driver in Auckland

A member of the public in his vehicle in Otara, Auckland, was kidnapped and assaulted early this morning, police said.

The attackers had jumped into the victim's vehicle just after midnight. The victim was held for a short time while they drove around Otara.

The victim was eventually released and called the police while the offenders made off in the victim's vehicle.

Police said that just after 4am this morning they were then informed of some suspicious activity near Panmure Yacht Club.

The victim's vehicle was found there and police are now speaking with six people.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the victim's vehicle - a Green Nissan Pulsar Hatchback - is asked to contact the Detective Sergeant of the Crime Squad at Wiri CIB.
