A Masterton man who assaulted four children - using a weapon on three, has been sentenced to a raft of community based sentences.
Dennis Paku, 39, appeared in the Masterton District Court before Judge Tom Broadmore yesterday when be pleaded guilty to one count of assault on a child and three of assault on a child with a weapon.
Crown prosecutor Will Taffs told the court the community didn't condone assaults on children and the message needed to be given that it wasn't acceptable behaviour.
Judge Broadmore told Paku violence against children wasn't acceptable and sentenced him to three month's community detention with a curfew between 7pm and 7am, 120 hours community work and 12 months intensive supervision.
"There has to be condemnation because of the gravity of the offending that reflects the community's concern about violence against children," he told Paku.
