A woman has been arrested at Wellington airport and charged with assaulting an Eketahuna farmer who was last week left reeling after losing a home on the farm to a suspicious fire.
Andrew Drysdale said he started as manager of the Atea Trust dairy farm more than six years ago after his best mate and farm owner Stacey Death was almost killed when he lost control of his car and hit a bridge only minutes from the Mangaroa Rd property.
Mr Death received serious head injuries in the crash and was left severely disabled and unable to speak. The two-bedroom stucco house that was destroyed by fire last Wednesday morning is the former Death family home in which his friend was raised, Mr Drysdale said.
Both men went to Nireaha School and each of their families had been farming in the district for generations.
Mr Drysdale said he milks 170 cows on the property and since starting as manager had become a 50:50 sharemilker on the farm.
