Femke Meinderts, from Sacred Heart Girls College in Hamilton, and Michael Christianson, of Rangitoto College in Auckland, have been selected as the New Zealand Herald's young Apec reporters.
In all, 146 students applied for the chance to become accredited reporters at Apec, which will include covering the leaders' meeting in September to be attended by United States President Bill Clinton along with some of the top journalists in the international press corps.
The standard of applications was extremely high, giving the Herald's selection panel a difficult job.
Femke Meinderts and Michael Christianson plan to pursue journalism as a career and both have had articles published.
The two seventh-formers will attend the four-day Apec Student Company Achievers Forum, which begins in Auckland on Friday.
Overseas and New Zealand students who have been involved in business ventures will look at ways to develop business and trade within the Apec region.
The Prime Minister, Jenny Shipley, will address the forum on Friday.
