The second roundabout on Brigham Rd in Hobsonville appears to have a serious off-camber, very noticeable on a motorbike and when driving a tall vehicle. Concerns have been raised by a local traffic officer and a highly qualified engineer, and now that it is fully opened to all traffic, it could prove dangerous. Mike Brown, West Auckland.
The NZTA says the roundabout is designed and constructed to meet New Zealand safety standards. The roundabout has to fit with the motorway's layout and its location in a shallow "valley" means it's built to ensure that there's no serious surface flooding in bad weather. The roundabout's camber or slope is within recognised 3 per cent guidelines. It's also on a route that can be used by over-dimension trucks and so has been built wide enough for them to turn easily.
The travelling times sign on the eastern side of the motorway onramp at Manukau has the times for travelling to the airport, Maioro St and Papakura. I didn't even know where Maioro St was until I checked a map. Do you know what the significance of that destination is? Rochelle Bradbury, Auckland.
Maioro St in New Windsor is the end of the Southwestern Motorway, SH20. When the Western Ring Route around Auckland is completed, SH20 will join up with SH16, the Northwestern Motorway, at the Great North Rd interchange at Waterview.
At the western end of SH20 before the recent changes, there was a roundabout and one set of traffic lights between the end of Sandringham Rd and SH20. There is now a dog leg and three sets of traffic lights between the end of Sandringham Road and SH20. Is this the final configuration on this intersection? John Robertson, Hillsborough.
