No, this is not correct, and the NZTA website reflects this (now). Where two cars face each other, and both face the same signals (whether they be stop signs, give way signs or green traffic signals) the vehicle turning left has right of way.
In regards to the new give way rules, at an uncontrolled T intersection there are three cars, car A wanting to turn right from the top of the T, car B turning left into the bottom of the T and car C wanting to turn right from bottom of the T. Car A must give way to car B and car C must give way to car A. If the way was clear of through traffic car C would have an opportunity to make his turn while car A is giving way to car B. Would common sense prevail or would car C have to wait until all cars have completed their turns then proceed? Graham Notman, Auckland.
The new rules are quite clear here. At an uncontrolled T intersection, all traffic on a terminating road gives way to all traffic not on a terminating road.
At the intersection of Reeves Rd and Gossamer Drive (a roundabout) there used to be a marked pedestrian crossing. However, a little while ago the signs and road markings were removed and all that remains are the traffic islands. What are the rules surrounding the now unmarked crossing?
