When will the plaque that was at the bottom of Forrest Hill Rd, honouring Lieutenant Forrest who died in WWI, which was removed during recent roadworks, be returned? John Seakins, Forrest Hill.
The plaque is being stored by the contractor who did the main intersection works.
The plaque will be reinstalled at the end of this month when the contractor returns to tidy up a few minor items. It will be installed at a new location further up the hill on the edge of Forrest Hill School grounds.
This new position was chosen with input from the local RSA and the school named after Lieutenant Forrest. The exact position will be on the back of the footpath outside the small chapel (opposite No 87 Forrest Hill Rd). I have been unable to find out exactly who Lieutenant Forrest was and why he has been honoured. Can anyone help?
What is the law regarding cyclists and skateboarders on city footpaths? Recently an NZ Post postie on her bike cruised down the busy Victoria Rd, Devonport, footpath amid astonished pedestrians. Michael Fleck, Waiheke Island.
You are only allowed to cycle on the footpath if you are delivering newspapers or mail, or you are riding a recreational device that has a wheel diameter of less than 355mm - typically tricycles or small children's bicycles, but also scooters and skateboards.
As skateboards, rollerblades and push scooters are not classed as motor vehicles or cycles, they may be used on a footpath, unless forbidden by bylaws, which is often the case in areas of high pedestrian use such as shopping areas.
If you're under 14 and using a skateboard, in-line skates or push scooter you're regarded as a pedestrian and use is restricted to the footpath.
If you're over 14, you can use these vehicles on the road. However, the New Zealand Transport Agency strongly advises people against this.
And a warning about king, or spring, or perigean, tides. I am advised the next ones will occur on March 2, 3 and 4. The maximum expected is 3.6m. If there is coincident low pressure and bad weather, the flooding could be severe.
