When the traffic signals on the northbound Greenlane onramp are operating, traffic coming from Greenlane East intending to use this ramp often backs up some way along the roundabout. This then blocks traffic exiting the motorway northbound wishing to come off at Greenlane East. This leads to confusion and frustration as the hapless motorist seeks to thread his way through the congestion. Should a driver simply wait until the roundabout is clear before proceeding, in accordance with the Road Code, then it is likely that his clothes will have gone out of fashion before he completes this move. He is also likely to receive helpful advice of various degrees of politeness from his fellow motorists. What is the official word on handling this situation please? David Weston, Maraetai Beach.
The Transport Agency promises to do its best to ensure that no driver becomes sartorially disadvantaged as a result of using the Greenlane interchange. It is one of the most heavily used interchanges in the country and its operation is under constant review by the NZTA. Changes have been implemented in the past and the NZTA is investigating other options to improve traffic flows. On average, 75,000 vehicles use it daily. The NZTA has to identify a solution where, overall, benefits exceed any negative impacts. Until an effective solution is identified, drivers will need to continue to use the interchange with care, patience and tolerance.
The lights in Myers Park go on and off during hours of darkness while street and building lights go on and off at morning and evening twilight. These latter lights are controlled by light sensor switches which results in lights being on in hours of darkness and off during daylight hours. Myers Park is in darkness well after evening twilight and well before morning twilight. It would appear that Myers Park lights are being manually controlled and whoever is doing it is not in touch with the varying length of day and night, which at this time of the year changes quite rapidly. Could you please investigate this matter? Ron Hood, CBD.
Auckland Council contractors are currently working to locate the lighting fault, which is affecting the lights from operating as per the programmed hours of dusk until daylight. We hope to have this issue resolved as soon as possible.
