Can you please explain how the traffic-lane changes between St Stephens Ave through to the Ayr St intersection are supposed to have improved traffic flow in this area? Since a single lane of traffic was introduced, from what was previously a merge-like-a-zip two-lane arrangement, traffic now backs up down Parnell Rd and also down St Stephens Ave to the point that the intersection of St Stephens Ave and Brighton Rd is becoming log-jammed. Declan Cahill, Parnell.
As part of the whole-of-route approach for the public transport in the area, Auckland Transport was testing signal options to try to improve traffic flow from other directions.
They found that some changes caused more delays to traffic flow than were acceptable. AT has now amended the signals to help relieve the flow on Parnell Rd.
The Parnell Rd southbound bus lane is not operating yet and the current road markings allow for drivers to continue as before. AT will also put in temporary signs to inform drivers of the new layout and expected completion date.
There are several large vertical wooden panels either side of the railway line just before the Ellerslie train station (southbound) and either side of the Ellerslie bridge over the motorway. Can you tell us what their purpose is please? Mike Protheroe, Auckland.
