Asking each other for help could be the key to a better New Zealand, says a Kiwi whose awareness-raising stunts include building the world's largest water slide and paddling the length of the Waikato River on a lilo.
Jimi Hunt, founder of depression charity Live More Awesome, was behind the 650m-long World's Biggest Waterslide in Helensville in February and last year paddled the country's longest river on an inflatable lilo.
He is also one of 20 inspirational New Zealanders who will take the stage at ideas forum TEDxAuckland tomorrow to share his take on the event's motto, "Ideas worth spreading".
"My overarching idea is 'ask for help'," he said. "We are a society and country of people who find it very, very hard to ask anyone they know - friends or strangers - for help when they need it, and that actually ruins our society."
TEDxAuckland will be streamed live on nzherald.co.nz, there will be a live blog from the event, and talks will be available for viewing on ted.com after the event.
