Asbestos cleaning at Dunedin Hospital will resume today after the long weekend.
An asbestos scare at Dunedin Hospital has affected access to the mortuary, ultrasound suite, two lifts, the central stairwell and staff-only areas.
A decontamination chamber was set up on Saturday for staff cleaning the stairwell but, apart from that, work ceased over the three-day break.
"The chamber, which is located on the lower ground floor, is split into three sections, which allows the team to exit the stairwell safely, ensuring no contaminates are carried out with them," chief executive Carole Heatly said.
"The work plan for the coming week involves prioritising the areas to be environmentally cleaned and continuing work to identify the sources of asbestos contamination.
