Artist accused of child porn offences

A man accused of possessing graphic images and movies of children being sexually assaulted appeared in Wellington District Court today.

Aaron James McDowell, a 37-year-old artist from Newtown, was remanded in custody on 15 charges of possessing an objectionable publication, and was due to reappear for a bail hearing tomorrow.

Police said footage of girls as young as five appeared amongst the material, as well as images of people urinating and defecating on one another.

An application for interim name suppression was declined.
