KEY POINTS:
Auckland atists and art lovers have donated works to be auctioned for an HIV/Aids project in South Africa.
Windsor Park Baptist Church in Mairangi Bay is working with the Uitenhage Baptist Church, Co-ordinators of the HIV/AIDS Home Based Care, in the town of KwaNobuhle, a few kilometres outside the City of Uitenhage.
Aids and HIV are widespread in the region.
Fundraising by the Windsor Park Baptist Church has previously enabled the Home Based Care to support a number of caregivers for a year with a stipend, appoint two team managers and a much needed Chaplain, all on a part time basis.
The art auction is planned for Sunday, October 28 at 1pm, at the caféwindsor Gallery, 550 East Coast Road, Mairangi Bay.
To date more than 80 pieces of art, some of which represent African and NZ scenery, have been received. But an organiser said they were looking for more local artists and art lovers to support this project by buying or donating art.
The proceeds from the auction are intended to cover costs towards clothing, food, blankets, the support of counsellors and the AIDS orphans.
* For further information or offers of art please contact Maurice or Pauline Jackson on (09) 410 5640 or email: jackson_m3@hotmail.com
Art can be left at the church equip room, between 9-12 and 2-4 Monday to Friday or collection can be arranged.
