Arsonists trying to destroy a murder scene in Whangarei are being warned that debris may kill innocent pedestrians.
On Saturday night, the house was deliberately set ablaze for the seventh time since gang member Nathan Fenton murdered his teenage girlfriend Mairina Dunn there in August.
Whangarei police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said the fire followed an explosion at the meter box. "The explosion threw metal and wood debris for some distance," Ms Kennett said.
"People who are committing these crimes should understand that anyone who was walking down the street at the time could have been hit by the debris and be seriously injured or even killed."
