Police and firemen are worried that a an arsonist might be at work after a spate of bush fires in the Manawatu early today.
A Fire Service spokesman said that crews were called out to six blazes at Palmerston North, Feilding, Bulls and Sanson between midnight and 2.30am.
It was too soon to say if the fires were started by one person but that could not be ruled out.
Police and fire personnel were investigating the blazes to see if there was a link.
