Arson blamed for phone outages

Arson is being blamed for the loss of land line telephone services around Wanaka early this morning.

Police said several roadside cabinets housing Telecom equipment were targeted and damaged, causing a loss of communication for some residents.

The damage, which police were alerted to at about 3am, had not interfered with cell phone coverage.
