"Police were in attendance at the event however the organisers advised police that the crowd numbers had far exceeded their expectations.
"Attending officers were spat at and abused by members of the crowd as they tried to diffuse multiple incidents of disorder.
"As a result of this event, police will be meeting with several parties, including Auckland Council next week, to carry out a full debrief."
Whittaker said four people were arrested.
Those living in the area took to website Neighbourly to voice their unhappiness.
One, who wanted to stay anonymous, said it was the worst he'd seen in 20 years of living in the area.
"It was the best event ever at Coyle Park, but needs control perhaps with gates, way more security and a lot more cops on duty.
"One guy fell off a cliff, face first into the oyster beds.
"The muddy guy almost drowned and was dragged to the shore - they almost didn't see him as he was camouflaged in the mud."
He added that some people were running over the top of parked cars, vomiting and urinating in residential gardens.
He said they left broken glass "everywhere".
Another resident, Nobuko Yoshizawa, said he had to call police after several problems overnight.
"On four occasions before 3pm we had people walking into our property and urinating."
Auckland Council is now reviewing how the event was handled, taking into account comments from police, security, and individual complaints from the public.
