KEY POINTS:
Two people have been arrested for an overnight attack on ambulance officers attending a call in Hamilton.
Police were called for help after the alarm was raised by St John ambulance officers called to an east Hamilton address shortly after 8.30pm, Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page, of Hamilton CIB, said.
An 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were arrested on serious assault and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle charges.
"It is very disturbing that these people feel they can violently attack those called to come to their aid," Mr Page said.
"Ambulance staff provide a vital public service helping people in need and their work is already difficult enough without being exposed to behaviour such as last night's malicious, drunken attack."
The two accused are to appear in Hamilton District Court on February 17.
