KEY POINTS:
Two people who allegedly broke into a building after they were left stranded at Waiheke Island ferry terminal have been arrested.
More than 100 people were stranded on the island after they could not all fit onto the last Fullers ferry back to Auckland early on Sunday morning.
Some of the waiting passengers reportedly broke into the ferry terminal seeking shelter from the cold.
Waiheke police Senior Constable Erin Marsden said two males were arrested yesterday morning by Auckland central police and further arrests could not be ruled out.
Mr Marsden said the damage was minimal but the duo allegedly broke into a large wharf building.
One of the doors had been forced open and there was tagging on one of the walls, he said.
Food and drinks had been taken from the food court.
Fullers operations manager Ian Greenslade said extra staff had been put onto ferries to deal with people returning from a dance party at Stoney Ridge vineyard but no extra services had been scheduled.
Those who missed out have been offered a complimentary trip to Waiheke and Fullers would also be prepared to talk about a refund.
Mr Greenslade said further parties were scheduled for Stoney Ridge later this month.
"We will need to talk to the party organisers to see what we can do," he said.
He said there should be no problems with next Saturday's Waiheke Island Wine Festival as it was scheduled to finish at 6pm.
