A Kiwi facing years in a Thai jail after he was allegedly busted with drugs in Phuket is wanted in New Zealand on fraud charges.
The man, using the name Taylor Grainger, was arrested last week after police allegedly caught the 41-year-old with 1.2g of methamphetamine and 0.95g of cocaine at the popular tourist hub, Patong beach.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said there had been confusion over his name, which is actually Grainge Taylor.
But Herald enquiries show Taylor was originally known in New Zealand as Grainge Marriott Madgwick and took what is believed to be his wife's surname after police began investigating allegations of credit card fraud against him in 2010.
Jeff Montgomery, Registrar-General and general manager for Births, Deaths, Marriages and Citizenship, yesterday confirmed Madgwick changed his name on December 13, 2010, to Grainge Taylor.
