A company director who promised job-seekers work in Australian mines has been arrested.
Frank Yeates was stopped at Auckland International Airport, where he was preparing to board a flight to Australia last week.
It is alleged the company did not deliver on its promises.
Many of the applicants complained to the Commerce Commission, alleging they were not offered work and were unable to contact the company after parting with their cash.
Hamilton Detective Simon Eckersley said the Commerce Commission alerted police after receiving 750 complaints about Yeates' company.
