Police put out an alert at the borders after failing to track down Yeates at his last known addresses.
Once arrested at the airport, Yeates appeared in the Manukau District Court charged with running a company, AAAjobforyou Ltd, with intent to defraud the public between March 28 and June 30.
Matt Taumanu said he paid $690 to Yeates after a seminar in Rotorua in March.
He said he was told he would need to pay $390 to have his CV rewritten and $300 for a Skype interview with a mining company in Australia or Papua New Guinea.
" It was two weeks later that I realised that there was no job because I couldn't get in touch with the company and my emails started bouncing back," he said.
Yeates has been bailed to appear in the Hamilton District Court on August 15. He could not be reached for comment.
