An Otorohanga man is facing a charge of arson after the rural farm house he was living in was gutted by flames last night.
Attending firefighters could see flames billowing from the Otorohanga Rd/SH3 house as they approached the scene about 13km north of the town just before 9.30pm yesterday.
Waikato police Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene said the 23-year-old would appear in Hamilton District Court this afternoon facing a charge of arson.
The fire began in the kitchen but was not drug related, he said.
Otorohanga fire chief Neville King said St John Ambulance staff treated one of the occupants however he was unsure how injured they were or how many were in the house at the time.
