A 52-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a security guard while Occupy Wellington protesters were cleared from Civic Square in the CBD yesterday morning.
A group of about 25 protesters was evicted from the square by Wellington City Council workers, security guards and police after they refused to comply with two letters urging them to pack up the camp protesters established 109 days earlier.
Today's arrest followed a complaint that a security guard filming the eviction had a video camera pushed into his face, resulting in two minor cuts to his forehead.
The charged man has been bailed to appear in the Wellington District Court on Friday.
Inspector Paris Razos said the site used by Occupy protesters was now clear and had been fenced off.
