Police following a trail of fake $100 notes have arrested a man in his early 20s.
The Christchurch man, who was arrested on Friday, will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow charged with possession of counterfeit notes.
Detective Sergeant Virginia Le Bas, of Christchurch police, said the investigation was continuing and more charges could follow.
At least 14 counterfeit $100 notes had been handed into the Canterbury fraud squad since the middle of June, she said.
"There may be more out there," she said. "Often fraud victims are too embarrassed to complain."
The fraudster had been targetting shops, buying a small item with the fake note and reaping the change.
Police are cautioning shops not to accept $100 notes from anyone they did not know and to check any suspect notes with their bank.
