Police have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing of a woman in a domestic incident in Hamilton last night.
The 46-year-old woman has had surgery in Waikato Hospital after being stabbed in the back during a party at a house in Primrose Street in suburban Frankton.
Police had earlier called at the address looking for the woman's estranged partner and said the stabbing could have been prevented if drunk party-goers had co-operated with officers at the time.
Detective Sergeant Andy Bu Bear said a short time later police were called back to the house and found the woman had been stabbed.
People in the area had been asked to keep an eye out for weapons on their property as the knifed used in the stabbing had not been found.
Clothing could also have been discarded, he said.
