A Christchurch man and woman caught on camera walking away from the scene of a shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning have turned themselves in to police.
Police have charged the man, aged 19, with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, after he allegedly shot a 29-year-old man in the face at point-blank with a BB air-pistol in Hereford Street about 1.30am on Sunday, August 29.
Surgery was needed to remove the pellet from the man's eye, and he would need further surgery, Detective Constable Hamish Beer told NZPA.
The man was seen walking away from the scene with a woman, also aged 19, and police had received numerous calls from the public identifying the pair, Detective Sergeant Mark Reid said.
Mr Beer said the victim was recovering well from what appeared to be a random attack.
"He is doing okay, I believe this is an isolated incident and it doesn't look as though the victim and offender knew each other."
Police were yet to decide whether to charge the woman.
The man will appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
