Nearly nine months after the shooting of a Hawke's Bay gang member on a service station forecourt, police have made an arrest.
A 23-year-old Napier man is due to appear in the Napier District Court today on a charge of being a party to attempted murder, police said today.
The charge relates to a gang shooting at the Mobil service station in Wairoa on October 29 last year, where a Mongrel Mob member was shot through the window of his vehicle by a Black Power member.
Several shots were fired through the closed driver's window of the car, leaving the man with shotgun pellet wounds to his arm and body and internal injuries.
He was hospitalised but has now recovered.
The shooting, on a busy Friday evening in the main street, came three days after a Black Power associate was shot outside the Mongrel Mob headquarters.
The police investigation into the service station shooting was hampered as they got little co-operation from either gangs.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford of Gisborne police said they were still seeking two other people in relation to the shooting.
"We have had some useful information from the public about these gang incidents, but we believe there are still people out in the community who know something that could be of value to us.
"It's important that those people come forward and speak to us so we can bring the offenders to account."
