A 41-year-old Carterton man has been arrested and charged over a shot fired into a police officer's home.
The man has been charged with six firearms related offences and will appear in Masterton District Court today.
A shot was fired through a window of the home of Carterton police constable Peter Cunningham as he sat in his lounge last Thursday night, narrowly missing him.
The arrested man had been charged with commission of a crime with a firearm; criminal damage; committing a threatening act with intention to intimidate; carrying a firearm with the intention to commit a crime; discharging a firearm at a dwelling house so as to endanger property and/or frighten a person; and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Detective Sergeant Mark McHattie of Masterton police said a substantial amount of information had been received from the Wairarapa public.
"There has been a groundswell of public support for police and for Peter Cunningham and that has been very much appreciated."
Mr McHattie said the arrest could encourage others to come forward with information about what happened last Thursday night.
Mr Cunningham, 48, said he saw a silver-coloured car racing away after the shooting.
His wife and two teenage children were in bed in the house at the time.
