KEY POINTS:
One person died and two others suffered moderate injuries in a two-car collision near Matamata last night.
Two people were thrown from one of the cars about 3km south of the town just before 7, said Inspector Willie Taylor of the police northern communications centre.
Alcohol was a factor in the accident and a man was arrested at the scene.
The two injured were taken to Waikato Hospital.
