A 31-year-old man has been arrested following a "brutal" attack on a man in central Hamilton on Friday.
Area Commander, Inspector Rob Lindsay said a man was violently assaulted on the corner of Hood and Alexandra streets about 3.30am.
"This attack left a man with serious facial injuries and there was the risk, had an arrest not been made, that Hamilton's reputation of a safe, family friendly, place to have a good time could have been tarnished," Mr Lindsay said.
"As a result of some sound investigative work by Detective Sergeant Ricky Thompson and his team, a 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning and will appear in the Hamilton District Court today on a charge wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm."
