Police have arrested a man following two Auckland bank hold-ups.
A man walked into ASB Bank at St Lukes shopping centre yesterday, threatened a teller and walked away with more than $3000. There was another similar robbery at National Bank in Newmarket this morning.
Detective Sergeant Jason McIntosh says police have arrested an 18-year-old and they are speaking to him.
Meanwhile the union for bank workers thinks it is time banks took another look at security following the robberies. Finsec campaigns manager Andrew Campbell says the last significant changes in bank security happened around ten years ago, so it is time for a review.
He says improvements need to be based on international research and best practice, which can be done by looking at what banks overseas are doing. Mr Campbell says he plans to talk to banks about security this week.
