A man is due in court today after an incident last night in which a south Auckland police patrol feared he was about to shoot a woman in a car.
Police said a dog patrol saw a man pointing a gun at a woman in a car he was driving near the Manurewa shops about midnight.
Inspector Scott Webb from the police northern communications centre said police feared the woman was about to be shot and the car was stopped and the man was arrested.
He said the weapon the man held was an imitation Glock pistol BB gun.
Police also found an imitation MP5 sub machine gun, assorted knives, two baseball bats and a radio scanner.
New Zealand police are issued with the 9mm Glock pistols. The Heckler and Koch MP5 sub machinegun is also 9mm and is used by several police departments and armies around the world.
The man, in his 30s was due in the Manukau District Court on a variety of charges.
