KEY POINTS:
A man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into a Gisborne house early today and sexually assaulted a sleeping woman.
Police said the 19-year-old woman man woke to find the man standing over her at the Waitangi Street property.
He ran off and was chased by two other people who had been staying at the house following a party, Sergeant Lincoln Sycamore of Gisborne police said.
An off duty police officer saw the man being chased along the street and went to assist.
A man had been charged with charged with burglary, indecent assault and assault with intent to injure, Mr Sycamore said.
