The Black Sticks, who will be captained by Anita Punt, have a strong track record against the United States. They beat them 3-2 at the 2012 London Olympic Games, won a game against them during the 2013 Four Nations Tournament, and secured a narrow test series' victory in San Diego earlier this year.
It will be the first time the Black Sticks have played at Clareville, providing locals and visitors to the region with a wonderful opportunity to see their national hockey team in action. Both games begin at 2pm and there'll be an autograph and photo session afterward.
Later on the Saturday of October 25 a melting pot of music styles and street food will come together for the inaugural Huia Street Festival, to be held in a closed-off King Street between 3pm - 10pm.
Festival organisers, brothers Warren and Alan Maxwell, say they want to celebrate Masterton and its surrounding community with the ultimate street festival.
"We feel that an urban-centric street festival would offer something a bit different," Warren said. "We'll celebrate this great town and the community with food and music."
An exotic selection of street food including Spanish, Moroccan, Krishna Kai and Italian will be on offer in a festival food village located in the car park next to King St Live.
In conjunction with Bully Free Me Wairarapa, the Festival will hold a competition to inspire local song-writing talent.
Warren said interested students can pen a song, which will then be judged by a selected panel. The winner will then perform the song live at the Festival.
Visitors will also have the first opportunity to see Chromatic Investigations, an exhibition by New Zealand modernist artist Milan Mrkusich at Aratoi: Wairarapa Museum of Art and History in Masterton as well.
It opens on October 24 and will run to January 31.
