The army driver killed in last year's fatal Unimog accident on Banks Peninsula has been blamed in Court of Inquiry findings.
Private Sean Dougherty and Private Daniel Kairua were killed in the accident. Another soldier was seriously injured.
After examining a number of possible causes of the accident, including road, vehicle, and weather conditions, the Court has concluded the most likely cause was momentary driver inattention.
The Court of Inquiry has advised the army to look at its transport staffing, training, and road movement orders.
It found rollover bars fitted to the Unimog performed as they should have.
