The Defence Force bomb disposal team has exploded a World War II hand grenade in Warkworth after a resident found it under their floorboards.
A person notified police around 10.30 this morning after discovering the grenade under their floorboards while doing renovations at a home on Lilburn St.
Police then notified the Defence Force who attended and identified the grenade.
"Police has notified NZDF and their bomb disposal team has attended and disposed of it out in a field (exploded it)", a police spokeswoman said in a statement.
The spokeswoman said it appeared the grenade was from World War II.
