Two armed robbers who held up an Armourguard van in west Auckland and fled with two cash boxes may be on a spending spree.
Police said today they were keen to hear about anyone "who had instant cash fame without winning Lotto" after the robbery outside the National Bank in Glenmall Place in Glen Eden just after 9am on Tuesday.
Two security guards were loading an ATM when a stolen Subaru car with two male occupants pulled up alongside them.
Detective Senior Sergeant Stan Brown said one of the robbers, carrying an AK-47 assault rifle or similar weapon, got out of the vehicle and pointed it menacingly at the guards.
He hit one of the guards with the rifle before snatching two cash boxes and returning to the car which was found abandoned a short time later.
Mr Brown said police were looking for "anything suspicious, anyone overheard talking or bragging about being involved, and anyone they think has some extra cash since the robbery."
