A security guard was threatened with what appeared to be a sawn off shotgun in a central Auckland bank last night.
The ADT guard was coming out of a lift on the ground floor of the BNZ bank on Queen St when he was confronted.
The guard handed over more than $50,000 and the robber ran outside to a waiting getaway vehicle.
Police said today this was a dark blue, early 90s Holden Commodore station wagon with a roof rack. They have obtained surveillance footage of the vehicle being driven off.
The guard, whose colleague in a security van was unaware of the robbery, was not injured.
Witnesses described the two offenders as male Polynesian or Maori, both in their early to mid 30s, both of medium build and standing 5'10" and 6' tall respectively.
One of the offenders was wearing a checked or striped light-coloured, long-sleeved, buttoned shirt.
Police would like to hear from anyone who has information about the offenders, the getaway vehicle or anything to do with the robbery, which happened just before 5pm yesterday.
Information should go to Detective Constable Iain Chapman on 09 302 6454.
