KEY POINTS:
A man armed with a knife carried out two robberies less than 20 minutes apart in Auckland this morning, say police.
The man, wearing a green towel over his head, threatened people with a knife, police spokesman Noreen Hegarty said.
He was seen getting into a green 'people mover' with the registration NU4959.
Ms Hegarty said police have determined the registration plates do not match the vehicle and are more than likely stolen.
The first robbery was shortly after 6.30am this morning at the Bread Basket in St Heliers Bay Road. Less than 20 minutes later, the robber struck London Superette on Queens Road in Panmure.
She said police would like to hear from anyone who thinks they might know the identity of the robber, who was accompanied by two other people.
Anyone who has information can contact police on phone number (09) 302 6789.
