Police are hunting a man who robbed a Hamilton superette at knifepoint before fleeing on a push bike.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Smith said the aggravated robbery happened at the Maeroa Superette, on the corner of Maeroa Rd and Rimu St, about 8.45am on Saturday.
"A man wearing dark sunglasses, a yellow scarf and a dark hooded jacket, with the hood up over his head, entered the store after leaning his bicycle up against the outside of the takeaway store opposite the superette," Mr Smith said.
Security camera footage showed him approaching the counter, pulling out a knife, threatening the store owner and then taking money from the till.
Mr Smith said the man took a small amount of cash and a quantity of tobacco before leaving the store, running across the road and fleeing on his bike.
"The man's jacket was a dark colour with lighter coloured piping along the shoulders and sleeve with dark pants and shoes," he said.
Police are appealing for sightings of anyone in the area acting suspiciously before the robbery or wearing similar clothing leaving the scene on a bike afterwards.
