A man armed with a pistol fired a shot into the air when he robbed a BNZ branch in the Auckland suburb of Howick today.
Police said he then pointed the gun at a teller and demanded cash.
The offender fled in a car and was pursued by police a short distance from the bank where he was caught and arrested.
A firearm has been seized and the cash recovered, police said.
