Armed police from around the South Island converged on Kaikoura yesterday because of fears about a man being armed and posing a threat.
A man and another person were taken into custody as they drove into Kaikoura about 10am, Sergeant Ramon Smith said.
One had since been released, but there were concerns for the wellbeing of the other man and he was being held for a health assessment.
Two firearms were found at a property in the Kaikoura area.
