Armed police descended on a Masterton home yesterday morning while uniformed officers manned roadblocks on streets surrounding the property at the centre of the siege.
At least a dozen marked and unmarked police vehicles were at the scene of the house raid on the west side of the town about 10am yesterday.
Several streets were blocked to road and foot traffic including Hosking Pl, Beetham St and parts of Masters Cres.
The operation was mounted soon after the onset of a storm that pummelled the region with high winds and rain yesterday morning.
At least eight Armed Offenders Squad members, some dressed in black and others also wearing camouflaged wet weather gear, had swooped on a home in Hosking Pl that was at the centre of the incident.
