Armed police have arrested a man in Northland after neighbours called with concerns for a man in a "distressed state".
The man had been inside a house on State Highway 12 in Whirinaki.
"Police were called by members of the public who observed the man in a distressed state," police said.
Cordons were put in place.
Police said before 3pm that a man in his late 30s had been taken into custody.
"Armed officers arrested the man as he attempted to leave the address on State Highway 12 in a vehicle," police said.
"The man is now speaking with police."
